Brian Miller Makes his Podcast Guest Debut on the Learn to Paint Podcast
Don’t miss this interview with Brian! He shares his insights on creating systems that work to support your painting practice. He talks about passion and commitment and knowing what it is that you want to get out of your painting experience. And he shares about his art origins and how important series are in his work. (Plus there’s even a true confession….so that’s worth a listen!)
You’ll learn a lot and get a chance to hear Brian sparkle as he lights up talking about art!
Starting August 9th, you can find the podcast here: learntopaintpodcast.com/podcast/episode56
Hosted by Kelly Anne Powers, the Learn to Paint podcast is a charming & informative compendium of interviews with artists — working in diverse styles, genres, and mediums — about their practices and how they understand the nuts and bolts of learning to paint. Kelly asks great questions and has an intimate understanding of the things that often get in the way as people engage their creativity journey. It’s worth subscribing (and maybe becoming a Patreon supporter!)

McRae Art Studios — Doors Open 6:30pm
One of the BEST DEALS of the YEAR!!!
It’s BACK!! On 8/10 (cute, right???), it’s the annual McRae Studios 8 x 10 show!
All the artists at McRae Art Studios have created at least 4 pieces of artwork in an 8” x 10” format (or comparable size sculptural & ceramic works). And each piece is selling for $100 — which represents a BIG savings off many artists’ regular prices!
The sale is tons of fast-paced fun. So don’t miss out on a minute of it. Here’s how it works:
Doors open at 6:30pm.
Register at the door to make shopping checkout faster & easier.
Enjoy a libation of beer or wine (free — but donations welcome).
Preview the available artwork and put your name down for the piece(s) you are interested in. Up to 10 people can express interest in each piece.
Starting at 7:45, a team of McRae artists will do a random drawing process to select one of the listed potential buyers for each painting. (NOTE: the selection is random, not on a first come, first served basis. But it’s lots of fun to see who wins the right to buy some of the most sought-after pieces!)
If you are the selected buyer, you take your winning tag(s) to the check out station — cash, check, or credit card welcome — and take your piece(s) with you.
If you want a frame for your 8 x 10 masterpiece(s), Flamingo Framing will have a large selection of 8 x 10 frames on sale conveniently at the Studios. Purchase one of their frames, and they can frame and wire your artwork for you while you wait.
In the meantime, tour the studios and look at other artwork from each of the McRae artists.
Bottom line: Enjoy a night of fun (and possibly take home some treasures at huge savings)!
We hope you can join us!

Donation Corner Launches (our Generous Culture Experiment)
In July, I wrapped up her 100 Days of Encouragement Project, where she highlighted over 130 artists and invited you to send them some words of encouragement. This project was born out of our shared passion for creating a generous culture, encouraging artists, and promoting the idea that we all rise together.
But sometimes, words of encouragement aren’t enough. Sometimes, we have to make encouragement practical.
To that end, we created Donation Corner on our website to help raise funds for causes or individual situations of need that we feel called to support in our small way.
You pay 20% off for the artwork in the Donation Corner Collection (excluding tax and shipping), and we donate the full price of the artwork to the designated recipient(s).
August marks our first campaign.
Raising Funds for Linda & Don Marcille
I featured Linda Marcille on Day 67 of the 100 Days of Encouragement Project (May 17, 2022). If you haven’t already, please read the blog post, which includes some of Linda’s story, samples of her work, and links to her website and YouTube channel.
Linda and her husband, Don, live in Vermont in a house that was designed for passive solar energy conservation. Unfortunately, toxic mold has invaded their home. On top of Linda’s chronic health issues and her husband’s health challenges, they have both been severely affected by the toxic mold exposure. They’ve had to evacuate their home, and are currently camping on their deck, hoping for a residential option to open up that will see them through the winter.
Linda’s art journals have been a significant source of her emotional and physical healing. Now, all these precious journals, as well as her canvases and any other porous surfaces in their home may need to be discarded.
This situation is a devastating blow to them physically, mentally, and financially. As you can imagine, they are wrestling with fear and despair, even as they are faced with massive amounts of work and significant financial need.
Linda & Don Marcille have a GO FUND ME page, and they are trying to raise money to pay for the mold remediation and get them through this crisis.
PLEASE feel free to donate directly if you aren’t interested in buying artwork. Also, if you know of resources that could support this couple, please reach out to Linda directly through Instagram, Facebook, or Go Fund Me.
But if you’d like a creative way to show your encouragement, shop the Donation Corner Collection — you’ll be helping & save a little money on original art in the process!
